How To Grow Your Online Audience

The Magic Formula. Does it exist?

Over the last few years, I have been asked how the blogging industry is working, where it came from and where it’s going. A question that arises frequently is: How did you grow your blog following? And as always it is so difficult to find an answer. Of course my blog is still growing and is by no means the most successful blog out there. Here are some ways I believe you can grow more substantially in a market where it is so difficult to stand out from the crowd.

Consistency

Any content platform that provides consistent content for their audience is likely to grow their following and loyalty. Providing content 2-3 times a week keeps your audience engaged and provides a fairly consistent schedule. Unfortunately I don't seem to be following my own advice as I have been known to go months without publishing a post. With work and university commitments, my blog has taken somewhat of a backseat for the last few months. Don't worry that’s about to change.

Engagement

Growing your blog isn't a numbers game, its about retention. Followers that have been loyal enough to follow you are the foundation of your success. Chatting with those who care enough to comment on your posts or even reach out to you on social media is important for reader loyalty. Engaging with readers will allow you to understand what content is useful and inspiring. Receiving constructive feedback will always help you improve your work and content. Remember without your current following, however big or small your blog wouldn't be where it is today without them.

Social Sharing and Optimisation

I’ve found social media to be a great tool for growth. Meeting new bloggers and creators and sharing your content with them. It’s a good way to get to know people and make connections within the industry. I generally don't type in blog URLs anymore, so Instagram is where I see everyone’s updates, If you're not utilising your most wide spread tool, you’re potentially missing the trick! Be aware of keywords for search engine optimisation, use correct titles for your content with keywords that are widely searched.

Unique Selling Point

Be different. Everyone has a unique trait, finding it and harnessing it is what makes you stand out from the crowd. Embrace being you, because being your most authentic self is an attractive quality to own in such a saturated industry.

The truth is, there is no magic formula. But everyone has a little magic within them.

Find your magic.
