Dishoom Date

Dishoom - or the Bombay Cafe as they describe themselves:

“The Old Irani Cafés of Bombay have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters.”

As a self-confessed foodie, you know I had to share my love for Dishoom.

Ordering cocktails. They're all worth a try, but my standout has to be the bhang lassi. Fresh ginger, mint, and hints of Bombay spice - with rum (or without). I opt for with, of course.

Honorable mentions go to Bollybellini - Raspberries, lychees, rose and cardamom with sparkling prosecco. Colaba Colada - Pineapple and coconut-cream with a Bombay twist: a little coriander, chai syrup, lime jucie, and dark rum.

As a vegetarian, I find the menu in no way limiting. If anything there's too much choice. A few special mentions have to be the chilli cheese toast, okra fries, and paneer tikka. Dishoom also has a substantial vegan menu ranging from breakfast to dessert, there's no shortage of choice.

My go-to options are okra fries, paneer tikka, pau bhaji, bhel, and jackfruit biriyani. The jackfruit biriyani is truly a standout dish, definitely worth a try.

With 5 central London locations, as well as branches in Edinburgh and Manchester it's definitely worth a visit.

Not just style over substance.
